{Decadent Chocolate Apples}

Most of you know that we’re expecting a baby any day now,
(get out, get out, get out already!!)
so the blog has taken a bit of a backseat to baby prep,
but I just had to take a minute today to churn out a few of these apples!


They are my absolute FAVORITE part of fall cooking
and I make them every year. 

They’re oh so simple and look oh so fancy when they’re done.



Here’s all you need:
A handful of your favorite apples.
  I like Fuji or Sweet and Crispy, but whatever you get make sure you get LARGE apples.
If you’re gonna go, go all out.
Several Bars of Dark Chocolate for Melting.
I prefer Chocolate Almond Bark, but our Commissary never, ever carries it here.  So instead, I went with Nestle Toll House Baking Chocolate and it worked just fine.  It takes about 3-4 bars for every five apples.
Yes, it takes a lot of chocolate.

Several Bars of White Chocolate for Melting.
You can even do colored chocolate here for an extra festive treat.

A bag of Butterscotch Morsels and A bag of Milk Chocolate Morsels.
You could really use whatever you prefer here, but this is my favorite.
Cashews.
Or whatever nuts you prefer.
Coffee topping or shredded chocolate.

OK, so are you starting to see how obscene these apples are? Some of you may want to start by dipping them in caramel, but I see no use.  Its all about the chocolate.  I don’t bother with sticks either.
That’s a tiny spot on the apple that could be covered in chocolate 🙂

So here’s what you do.

Start by polishing your apples with a dry dish towel.  Don’t wash them or the chocolate wont stick.
Then you’re going to submerge each each apple in all that melted dark chocolate until its completely covered.
Use a fork to dip them (or wooden skewers) and transfer them onto wax paper.
While they cool, throw those cashews in the chopper and chop them up medium fine.  Set aside.  Do the same with the butterscotch and milk chocolate morsels.  I combine them in one bowl for easier dipping.
Once your apples are cool enough to dip (not too cool or the chocolate will harden) then roll them in the toppings until they’re completely covered.  You can use a spoon to help coat them.
Place them back onto the wax paper to finish cooling.
About now is when I start to get impatient.
And then I start looking for a baking pan to put them on so I can put them in the refrigerator…
OK, so once they’re all cool and hard, melt that white chocolate.
And this part is supposed to be ugly.
Just dollop it on top, however much you like.  Really, its not supposed to be pretty.
Top it off with your favorite sprinkles ( I like hazelnut mocha).
Return to the fridge, uh, counter to cool.

And Voila!

Couldn’t you just eat the whole platter right off the screen?? EEEKK! They’re a pregnant gals dream come true. And there’s an apple under there, so really, its got to be healthy, right?

These make fantastic teacher gifts.  Or party gifts.

Or, I’m 9 months pregnant and this baby wont get out so I’m gonna eat chocolate gifts….but I digress.
